Solution

  1. Large Number of Buyers and Sellers: In a perfect competition market, there are a large number of buyers and sellers. Each buyer and seller is so small in relation to the entire market that no single buyer or seller can influence the price.

  2. Homogeneous Product: The products offered for sale are perfect substitutes for each other, i.e., they are identical in all respects such as quality, size, color, content, etc. Therefore, buyers have no preference for any specific brand.

  3. Free Entry and Exit: Firms are free to move into the industry or to leave the industry. There are no barriers to entry or exit.

  4. Perfect Knowledge: All buyers and sellers have complete knowledge about the prices prevailing in the market. There is no information asymmetry.

  5. No Government Intervention: There is no government intervention in the form of taxes, subsidies, or regulations.

  6. No Transportation Costs: Buyers and sellers do not incur any transportation costs. As a result, the price of the product is the same throughout the market.

  7. Non-Increasing Returns to Scale: Firms in a perfectly competitive market are assumed to be operating under a condition of non-increasing returns to scale. This means that doubling all inputs will just double the output.

  8. Independent Decision Making: Each firm makes its decisions independently of its competitors. It cannot influence the decisions of other firms.

  9. No Advertising: Firms do not spend any resources on advertising since all products are identical and buyers are fully informed about the product and its price.

  10. Profit Maximization: Each firm in a perfectly competitive market aims to maximize its profit. They do this by adjusting their output levels until marginal cost equals marginal revenue.
