Solution

Conduction is the process by which heat energy is transmitted through collisions between neighboring molecules. This process occurs in solids, liquids, and gases, but it is most effective in solids because their molecules are close together. The heat energy is transferred from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature. The heat transfer continues until the temperatures in the two regions equalize. This is the principle behind, for example, why a metal spoon in a hot soup becomes hot from the end in the soup to the handle.
