Who is Persephone? Tell her life story.

Persephone is a figure from Greek mythology. She is the daughter of Zeus, the king of the gods, and Demeter, the goddess of agriculture. Persephone is often associated with the spring season, as her story is tied to the changing of the seasons.

Persephone's life was relatively peaceful until she was abducted by Hades, the god of the underworld. While she was picking flowers, the earth opened up and Hades emerged, taking her with him back to the underworld. However, while in the underworld, Persephone had eaten pomegranate seeds, a symbol of marriage. This meant that she was bound to Hades and the underworld.

A compromise was eventually reached. Persephone would spend part of the year with Hades in the underworld (autumn and winter) and the rest of the year with her mother (spring and summer). This is used to explain the changing of the seasons in Greek mythology. When Persephone is with her mother, plants grow and flowers bloom (spring and summer). When she returns to the underworld, the earth becomes barren (autumn and winter).

Persephone is often portrayed as a dual goddess, representing both life and death. She is the queen of the underworld, but also a symbol of new life in the spring. Her story is one of the most well-known in Greek mythology.
