Solution

The question is asking to arrange the lectures according to the given conditions and then find out which lectures were held on the first and last day.

Let's solve this step by step:

  1. There are 7 days in a week, but only 6 lectures, so one day will have no lecture. According to condition (i), the day before the day with no lecture will have the Group Discussion lecture. This means Group Discussion cannot be on Sunday, and the day with no lecture cannot be Monday. Also, the day with no lecture cannot be Saturday as per the question. So, the day with no lecture can be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Sunday.

  2. Condition (ii) states that Motivation should be organised immediately after Assessment Centre. This means Motivation cannot be on Monday, and Assessment Centre cannot be on Sunday.

  3. Condition (iii) states that Quality Circle should be organised on Wednesday and should not be followed by Group Discussion. This means the day with no lecture cannot be Thursday, and Group Discussion cannot be on Thursday.

  4. Condition (iv) states that Decision Making should be organised on Friday and there should be a gap of two days between Leadership and Group Discussion. This means Group Discussion cannot be on Wednesday or Saturday, and Leadership cannot be on Monday or Thursday.

By considering all these conditions, the only possible arrangement is:

  • Monday: Leadership
  • Tuesday: Group Discussion
  • Wednesday: Quality Circle
  • Thursday: No Lecture
  • Friday: Decision Making
  • Saturday: Assessment Centre
  • Sunday: Motivation

So, the lectures organised on the first and last day are Leadership and Motivation. Therefore, the answer is "None of these".
