A) What are three things that you either 1) learned about, 2) thought were interesting, or 3) stood out to you from the content in module 2? Why did they stand out to you? A minimum of five complete sentences is required related to the question (not lines, need sentences) to earn 2 points. If you do not use at least ten full sentences no points will be earned.B) What was the most difficult/challenging part part or topic for you from module 2 content and why do you think it was challenging? Minimum of three complete sentences to earn 1 point. If you do not use at least three full sentences no points will be earned.C) In this module you were exposed to photosynthesis and the importance of photosynthesis not only for the plants but also how the process results in oxygen needed by organisms for aerobic cellular respiration. For the past decade or so some scientists have been exploring the idea of intelligence in plants and this past May a book was created that created a stirr online about whether plants should be considered intelligent. I would like you to read/skim through these short summary articles: https://news.cornell.edu/stories/2024/06/are-plants-intelligent-it-depends-definition and https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/13/books/zoe-schlanger-light-eaters.html and https://www.npr.org/2024/05/06/1249310672/plant-intelligence-the-light-eaters-zoe-schlanger. What are your thoughts on this work? Do the points convince you that plants are intelligence? What do you think of the word "intelligence" and are there different types of intelligence (in your opinion). Does this shift your view of plants in any way? Minimum of 5 full sentences to earn 2 points.

Solution

A) From module 2, three things that stood out to me were the process of photosynthesis, the importance of photosynthesis for oxygen production, and the concept of plant intelligence. The process of photosynthesis was interesting because it is a complex chemical process that plants undergo to convert light energy into chemical energy. The fact that this process is also responsible for the production of oxygen, which is essential for aerobic cellular respiration in organisms, was also fascinating. The concept of plant intelligence was something new that I learned about, and it intrigued me because it challenges our traditional understanding of intelligence.

B) The most challenging part of module 2 for me was understanding the detailed process of photosynthesis. It was challenging because it involves a series of chemical reactions and it requires a good understanding of biology and chemistry to fully grasp it.

C) After reading the articles, I find the idea of plant intelligence quite compelling. The fact that plants can adapt to their environment, communicate with each other, and even remember information suggests a form of intelligence. However, I believe that the term "intelligence" is subjective and can have different meanings in different contexts. In my opinion, there are indeed different types of intelligence, and it's not limited to cognitive abilities in humans. This new perspective definitely shifts my view of plants and makes me appreciate them more for their complexity and their crucial role in our ecosystem.
