  5. Acceptance: This is not a period of happiness, but rather an acceptance of the reality. It's a time when we realize that life has to go on.

Some experts have expanded these stages to include two additional ones:

  1. Shock: This is the initial paralysis at hearing the bad news.

  2. Testing: This is when we seek realistic solutions for dealing with the pain and adjusting to life without the person or thing we've lost.

Remember, these stages are not linear and some people may not experience all of them or may experience them in a different order. It's a highly individual process.
