Solution

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is a regional cooperation strategy proposed by the Chinese government to integrate the two Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao with nine cities in Guangdong Province: Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing.

The concept of the GBA was first introduced in China's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020). The aim is to create a world-class city cluster that will play a leading role in global innovation, finance, shipping and trade.

The GBA covers a total area of 56,000 square kilometers with a combined population of over 70 million as of end-2017. It is a significant economic powerhouse. In 2017, the combined GDP of the GBA was around $1.5 trillion, roughly the same size as Australia or South Korea.

The GBA is also a key part of the Belt and Road Initiative, China's ambitious project to boost trade and stimulate economic growth across Asia and beyond
