Solution

A distribution, in statistical terms, is a function that shows the possible values for a variable and how often they occur. It essentially describes the spread of data: where most values fall, how much variation there is, etc.

For example, think about the heights of a group of people. Most people might be around a certain height, say 5.5 feet. Fewer people might be very short or very tall. If you plot these heights on a graph, with the height on one axis and the number of people of each height on the other, you get a distribution of heights.

There are different types of distributions, such as normal distribution (also known as Gaussian distribution), where most values cluster around the mean (average) and the rest taper off symmetrically on either side. Another type is the skewed distribution, where values lean more towards one side than the other.

In essence, a distribution gives a comprehensive picture of how values in a dataset are dispersed and how they relate to each other.
