Solution

A disaster is considered a disaster when it causes significant damage, destruction, loss of life, or drastic alteration to the environment. It can be natural, like hurricanes, earthquakes, or floods, or man-made, like nuclear accidents or oil spills.

For example, the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in 2011 is considered a disaster. The earthquake was one of the strongest on record and it triggered a powerful tsunami that caused widespread destruction along the coast. The tsunami also led to a nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, causing a significant release of radioactive materials. This event led to the loss of thousands of lives, displacement of people, and significant economic damage. It also had long-term effects on the environment and health of the population.
