4. Secure the Work Piece: Use a fence and/or clamps to secure the work piece. Never hold the work piece by hand while drilling.

5. Set the Speed: Set the correct speed for the drill bit and material.

6. Position the Drill Bit: Lift the feed lever to bring the drill bit up, then bring it down so the tip of the drill bit is just touching the work piece.

7. Turn on the Machine: Turn on the drill press.
